Rate your genius hour effort from 1 to 10 (with 10 being superior and 1 being minimal). Explain the reasoning for your score? I rate my Genius hour effort with a 10. I rate it this way because I feel like I tried as hard as I could on this project with the topic I chose. I put a lot of time and effort into making the website design as appealing as possible and also put a lot of work into taking the pictures that I put onto the website. Explain why/why not you think Genius Hour is a good use of your time in English Language Arts?
I think that Genius Hour is not a good use of my time in English class. I think the way it is being done goes against the whole reason it was created in the first place. Genius Hour was created to let kids be able to explore and learn and focus on something THEY WANT in the school setting. Many kids would rather read SSR during English class. I am one of them. Instead of forcing kids to read SSR they are now being forced to do Genius Hour which is the exact same way it was to begin with. Genius Hour is not making the English Class time any different. Students are still being forced to do something; it is just a different thing. Genius Hour would be better if students had the option to choose: SSR or Genius Hour. If it was done that way it would be more effective and make education more enjoyable instead of being shoved down our throats. Sir Ken Robinson believed kids should be able to explore what they want in education, and some students want to explore SSR. Genius Hour would be a good OPTION for kids who preferred to do that, but SSR should still be an option for kids. what is your step by step plan to complete your genius hour project? There is not really much I need to do to complete my Genius hour project. There are really only three steps needed as my project is a project that can go on forever as more pictures are taken.
I would say the steps are: 1) Take more pictures 2) Upload the pictures to my photo album page 3) Repeat steps one and two until the project deadline is met There is no specific time that I need to do these steps, just whenever I see something photogenic. I would just plan to take as many pictures as possible and upload them whenever I get the chance. What progress have you made in the last month on your Genius Hour project? In the last few months I have worked on taking more pictures. I have also worked on my website design and adding more pictures to my website. We have not had much time to work on our projects this last month so I have not been able to get a whole lot done, but I have finished some. What steps do you plan to take in the next three weeks to further your progress on your project? In the next three weeks I plan to further my project by adding more pictures to my website, and hopefully be able to take more pictures. I also plan to finalize my website and go over it getting rid of any junk or clutter.
describe the progress you've made this semester on your genius hour project? This semester I have been able to take a lot of pictures and upload them. I have also been able to spend a large amount of time on my website design and graphics. The majority of my time has gone to the blog posts, although we have not had much class time to work on this project. what is the most challenging aspect of your project so far?The most challenging aspect of my project so far is finding enough to time to work on it as we don't have much class time to do it. Transferring the pictures from my camera has also proved challenging at times.

What did you learn from perusing the Blogs of other students participating in Genius Hour/20 Time?12/5/2014 I learned how diverse the topics were and how you could tell what he or she who designed its passion was. It showed all of the work they put into their topic and it gave some ideas for my own website design. How can you use what you have learned to impact your own Genius Hour project/ TedTalk?I can use it because it shows how other teachers are grasping this idea and introducing it to their classes. It can also show us how we can improve our own projects and keep diversifying topics and ideas. It helped my ability to compare websites and identify what i liked and disliked. What progress do you still need to make towards your Genius Hour Project?I still need to finish my website and start the research. the topic proved to be harder then i had anticipated so my first thought is to find out where to start. What kinds of ideas about presentation skills did you think about as sir ken robinson presented his ideas about education? how could you incorporate what you saw into your own ted talk? Sir Ken Robinson kept his audience engaged with humor. Intricately weaved throughout his speech were many different jokes pertaining to the topic and examples of irony. He had excellent analogies and superb comparisons that captured listeners interest as well as their imagination. His comparison of education to death valley was the main analogy he used throughout his speech, and served to keep listeners engaged with what they were hearing. His body language was friendly and open, and if watched closely enough he makes eye contact with the audience continually. This TED talk could be incorporated into my own TED talk because the information presented in Sir Ken Robinson's talk is universal and would transfer to any talk on this subject matter. How did Sir ken robinson's talk resonate with you? How might/Might not Genius hour support ken robinson's ideas about how to change education?Sir Ken Robinson's talk made me think about the education in our country today. His comparison to Finland's educational system helped me see the differences and similarities that are present. His talk showed how are educational pattern follows a pattern and is extremely habitual and ritualistic with the forethought that what works for one child will work for another instead of making a child's education his or her own. I believe Genius Hour does not support Sir Ken Robinson's ideas about education because it is not an option, it is a requirement. There are many kids who would rather read SSR then have to make a website for the world to see what they are passionate about. Sir Ken Robinson's ideas have the option of choice, Genius hour would be a good choice for students who did not want to read SSR, but for those who do, the Genius Hour is just as monotonous as the reading SSR is for those who do not gather anything from it. Sir Ken Robinson's ideas state that a not every person learns the same way, this being said, some will benefit from Genius Hour while others will not and would benefit more from reading SSR.
Describe the most useful resource you have found to help you develop your GENIUS hour project? The most useful resource I have found to help me develop my project is websites with lists of horse diseases and ones that tell me which ones are more common and which are rarer. I have also found a few disease books I own to be useful in developing my project. be honest. how could you use your genius hour time more EFFECTIVELY?I could more effectively use my genius hour time by deciding how I'm going to put all the research together in a book people can see instead of the current list I am doing and get that put together.
